Cresta Supports the 2010 24th Lizard Island Black Marlin Classic

Cresta has proudly announced it will support The 2010 Shell Cove 24th Lizard Island Black Marlin Classic and once again signalled its enthusiasm for Australian recreational fishing.

Cresta has recently released 3 new breathtaking vessels, the 62 Open Flybridge, 66 Enclosed Flybridge and the 70 Motor Yacht and opened its Sanctuary Cove based Australian headquarters.

At the 23rd Lizard Island Classic, Cresta sponsored the attendance of Mr Phil Bolton, Manager of NSW DPI Game Fish Tagging Program, aboard its tournament vessel for the purpose of promoting the longstanding tagging program and deploying new and innovative satellite tags to track the movements of black marlin released during the event.

“The Cairns – Lizard Island area is still the only known spawning site for black marlin in the world. It is important that the Northern Queensland game fleet support the tagging program as there is still much to learn from tagging the mature fish before they leave the area. The conventional tagging program is still the best way for us to learn about the long-term movements that these fish are capable of” said Bolton who will attend the Classic again this year to further promote the program.

“Extending its support for sports fishing, particularly via the world’s premier Black Marlin tournament, is a logical step for Cresta” said Vice President of Sales and Marketing Tim Ballintine.

“This tournament is excitedly anticipated by heavy tackle anglers the world over, and is an ornament to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef” said Ballintine.

President of Lizard Island Game Fishing Club Bob Lowe reported “To have an Australian boating icon of Cresta’s ilk come on board to support our tournament is very exciting and we look forward to a long and mutually rewarding association with Cresta”.
